Suggested Itinerary I have tried to provide an itinerary that will take you to most worthwhile places in the BVI in 7 days. It is little ambitious and assumes that you will not be affected by either of the 2 terrible afflictions common to people sailing the BVI. The first one is the dreaded "limin" disease which causes you to just hang out and forget about schedules and deadlines. The second is the infamous "pain killer" that will incapacitate the best of crews. If you find yourself showing any of the symptoms you might want to skip the lunch part of the legs and enjoy a more leisurely trip. Day One Arrival day. You've made it to the Conch Charters docks. Check in and go relax on the boat. You've had your provisions delivered to the boat so you don't have to bother with grocery shopping on your first night...t
On the subject of provisions we suggest to bring whatever dry goods you need such as rice, pasta, coffee, cereals etc...from the mainland along with a case of Old Milwaukee (more later on that) and have your fresh provisions and alcohol delivered to the boat by Bobby's. Here is a link to their online ordering: If you plan on buying chicken from the BVI try to ascertain its origin. There are basically two areas for chicken, the airport and the West End. Chicken at the airport are chased all day by American tourists waiting to board their planes and can be pretty tough, the ones from the West End on the other hand spend every night screaming to make sure that boaters anchored there can't sleep and then rest all day....With the opening of the new airport we might see a change..... Now if you really want to enjoy your vacation rather than to try to set the boat on fire with the BBQ we have suggested a restaurant for every stop. On the first evening we recommend
to walk to Day Two Boat briefing and chart briefing . By 11:00 AM you're off on your first leg. Destination Cooper Island. It's a slight beat to windward for about 40 minutes and it will let you get a feel for the boat and your crew. Pick up a mooring in the bay and go ashore for a nice lunch of fish and chips. Then dinghy over to Cistern Point for some great snorkeling. By 3 PM you're off again on a downwind sail towards the Bight at Norman. Time to really relax and enjoy the views of Peter Island and the Drake Channel. It is now time to open these Old Milwaukees that you brought over and say out loud " It don't get no better than that ". Alternatively you can zoom towards Road Harbor on a reach, jibe and zoom towards the Bight. In any kind of wind you should be able to get Mama Cocha to double digit speeds.
The Willy T' At the bight pick up a mooring on the far left in the middle of the bay if possible (number 5 or 6). You will be a short dinghy ride away from the Willy T and Pirates but far enough so that the noise won't keep you up. Also if you have kids on board they can swim and snorkel right there. Dinner at Pirates and then on to the party on the Willy T...don't forget to jump from the top. Day Three Dinghy over to the caves and enjoy some spectacular snorkeling. Then you're off to Soper's Hole for a lunch and shopping stop. Mahi Mahi sandwich at Pusser's is our favorite. If you have missed anything in your provisioning the Ample Hamper there has a great selection.
Soper's Hole In early afternoon sail over to White Bay pass the reef markers and anchor on the left of bay across from the concrete structure or if you prefer pick up one of the new moorings on the east side in front of Ivan's. Swim or dinghy to shore and go to the Soggy Dollar bar. Word of warning. This place is the home of the pain killers and KC the bartender is very apt at pouring them....when you add a few strategically placed hammocks...you're in trouble. Many a case of "Limin" disease have started right there. The CDC is investigating but so far no cure has been found. If you are still able, motor over to Great Harbor in the late afternoon for a night at Foxy's. Anchoring in Great Harbor can be somewhat tricky so make sure that you anchor has set properly. Alternatively go over to Little Harbor pick up a mooring and enjoy a lobster dinner at one of the three restaurants.
Harris Day Four Morning sail to Sandy Cay for some snorkeling and a picnic on your own deserted island. In the afternoon sail up the rugged north shore to Guana Island and stop at Monkey Point for another great snorkeling spot then motor up around Little Camanoe and into the passage between Little Camanoe and Great Camanoe making sure you avoid the rocks to starboard. Pick up a mooring a Marina Cay and go ashore for some more great views from the top of the island and the famous Bean Show. For dinner dinghy over to Scrub Island at Donovan's Reef. If you are in need of water you can refill at the dock at marina Cay. Day Five Sail to The Baths in the morning and pick up a mooring, dinghy over to the mooring line and swim ashore. Take the fantastic trail trough the baths to Devil's Bay and if you feel like it trek up the hill to the Top Of The Baths for lunch . The Baths In the afternoon sail up the Virgin Gorda coast until you have a clean entrance to the Sound past Mosquito Island, follow the markers in and motor all the way towards Saba Rock where you can pick one of their moorings and get free water. It is also very practical to be close in case you enjoy the reggae party too much that night. BEYC Go to the Bitter End yacht Club and enjoy the grounds. Buffet dinner there and then onto Saba Rock for some dancing. Day Six An early start and a great sail to Anegada which should take you 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours, depending on the winds, from Mosquito Island. Pick up a mooring and go to shore to get a flair of the island. Pick up a tee shirt or a hat that says "Live Slow Sail Fast". Get on a taxi and go to Loblolly beach to enjoy snorkeling on the horseshoe coral reef. Relax on the beach and take the last taxi back to "town". Tonight lobster dinner on the beach at the Anageda Reef Hotel. Day Seven Another great sailing day back to the Drake channel. Leave in the morning after enjoying the fine bakery from Pam's Kitchen for breakfast. On your way to Peter Island on a beam reach you stop at the Dogs for one last great snorkel. Head for Deadman's Bay and anchor on the sand in front of the southeastern beach. Day Eight Early morning sail across the Drake Channel into Road harbour where you check out and prepare for the trip back home. This is usually when I do my Michael Jackson moondance on the way to the taxi.... Well there is always next time.
